Hi, I’m Sergio, Telecom Engineer and Founder of eSIMs.ca

I spent 12 years working in the telecommunications industry, specializing in SIM card technology, mobile networks, and wireless communication. I have a degree in Telecommunications and Computer Engineering from the University Institute of Lisbon, and after moving to Toronto, Canada, I started noticing how confusing eSIM technology was for everyday people.
Whether someone was switching carriers, setting up a new phone, traveling outside Canada, or trying to avoid expensive roaming charges, the information was often scattered, technical, or hard to understand.
That’s why I built eSIMs.ca.
What This Site Is About
eSIMs.ca is a free, independent resource for anyone trying to understand eSIM technology in Canada and beyond.
On this site, I cover:
- How to activate eSIMs on major Canadian carriers, including Bell, Rogers, TELUS, Fido, Virgin Plus, Koodo, Freedom Mobile, Public Mobile, Chatr, Lucky Mobile, Eastlink, Fizz, and more
- Whether your Canadian carrier’s roaming is worth it or whether a travel eSIM makes more sense for your trip
- Reviews of global eSIM providers like Airalo, Holafly, Nomad, aloSIM, Saily, Ubigi, GigSky, Mobimatter, and others
- Troubleshooting guides for common eSIM problems, including failed activation, QR code issues, no service, device compatibility problems, and eSIM transfer issues
- Practical tools like the eSIM Compatibility Checker and Canadian Roaming Savings Calculator to help you check device compatibility and compare roaming costs before you travel
Everything is written from a telecom engineer’s perspective, but explained in plain language.
How I Research and Test
Every article on this site is backed by hands-on experience, professional telecom knowledge, and detailed research.
I personally test eSIMs when possible and use my first-hand experience with SIM card technology, mobile networks, and wireless communication to explain how eSIMs work in real-world situations. I also review official carrier information, provider support pages, device settings, setup flows, and common user problems to keep the guides practical and accurate.
The goal is simple: to give you clear, useful guidance based on real telecom knowledge, real-world testing, and careful research.
Free Tools
I also built three free tools to help you make better decisions:
- eSIM Compatibility Checker: Find out if your device supports eSIM before you commit to a plan.
- Canadian Roaming Savings Calculator: See whether roaming with your Canadian carrier or buying a travel eSIM saves you more money on your next trip.
- eSIM Plan Comparison Tool: Compare available eSIM plans and prices in Canadian dollars.
Why You Can Trust eSIMs.ca
eSIMs.ca is built to be practical, independent, and reader-first.
I do not write guides to push one provider over another. I focus on what actually helps readers understand their options, avoid setup problems, and make better decisions based on their device, carrier, destination, and data needs.
The information on this site is based on my telecom background, hands-on testing, official carrier research, provider documentation, and real-world eSIM use cases.
No Affiliate Relationships
At this time, eSIMs.ca does not have affiliate relationships with any eSIM provider and does not earn commissions when readers choose a provider or plan.
Every recommendation is based on hands-on testing, detailed research, official provider information, and my professional judgment. Any advertising displayed on the site does not influence which providers, plans, or services I recommend.
